Choosing Mining Algorithm
Let’s focus on the two algorithms – Equihash and Ethash (Dagger-Hashimoto). The range of cryptocurrencies is not the only difference between the two. For instance, Equihash increases GPU power consumption which leads to overheating.
Choosing GPU for Mining
We chose three mining rig modifications based on GeForce GTX 1070, 1080 and the most expensive 1080 Ti. Each rig has 8 GPUs. Here are the hashrates.
Ethash/Dagger-Hashimoto:
- a rig with 8 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070: 250 Mh/s (8 * 31 Mh/s);
- a rig with 8 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080: 300 Mh/s (8 * 37 Mh/s);
- a rig with 8 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti: 432 Mh/s (8 * 54 Mh/s).
Equihash:
- a rig with 8 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070: 3600 sol/s (8 * 450 sol/s);
- a rig with 8 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080: 4000 sol/s (8 * 500 sol/s);
- a rig with 8 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti: 6000 sol/s (8 * 750 sol/s).
What to Mine on GeForce GTX 1070
Let’s go to WhatToMine to calculate the profit. On the main page, you should enter the corresponding hashrate for each algorithm. Let’s start with Equihash.
Let’s assume that electricity costs $0.05. If yours costs less, your profit will be higher. Here is the result.
And here is the result for Equihash.
The three most profitable coins are based on Ethash.
- Metaverse – $4.56
- Nicehash – $4.27
- Ethereum – $4.06
Nicehash, which brokers anonymous hash rentals, is not a very good fit for our list, so let’s replace it with the more reliable Ethereum Classic.
- Metaverse – $4.56
- Ethereum – $4.06
- Ethereum Classic – $4.02
What to Mine on GeForce GTX 1080
Same thing here. We are checking results for a mining rig with 8 GeForce GTX 1080 on Ethash. hashrate is 300 Mh/s, consumption is 1120W.
Here is the result for Equihash.
Again, the top 3 coins are all based on Dagger-Hashimoto. After eliminating Nicehash, we get the following list.
- Metaverse – $5.43
- Ethereum – $4.93
- Ethereum Classic – $4.87
What to Mine on GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
Now let’s see the profitability of GTX 1080 Ti on Ethash.
And here is the result for Equihash. Consumption is 1520W.
The leading cryptocurrencies remain the same, but with different results.
- Metaverse – $8.43
- Ethereum – $7.71
- Ethereum Classic – $7.61
In spite of the lower profits and higher power consumption, many miners prefer to mine Equihash coins, especially Zcash (ZEC).
Choosing the Right Cryptocurrency
Consider the popularity of the coin you are going to mine – it is very important. Make sure that daily trading volume is more than just a few thousand dollars. Don’t choose useless coins that you won’t be able to sell.
If you still want to try a less popular coin, then research the project beforehand, read its white paper and check if the team meets the established deadlines. Find out who works for the project. Are they reputable people with real social network accounts or bots with fake avatars taken from stock photo services? The more reliable the coin, the better.
Where to Mine Cryptocurrencies
We recommend mining on 2miners pool. We offer stable servers abroad, regular payouts, over 7,000 miners online and smart design.
